At Effra we follow the curriculum as outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) document which can be downloaded here. This clearly defines what we teach. The EYFS framework includes seven areas of learning and development, all of which are seen as important and interconnected but three areas are seen as particularly important for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, for building their capacity to learn and form relationships and thrive they support children’s learning in all other areas. They are known as the prime areas. The prime areas begin to develop quickly in response to relationships and experiences, and run through and support learning in all other areas. The prime areas continue to be fundamental throughout the EYFS.
What’s different about nursery schools?
There are 5 local authority nursery schools in Lambeth and approximately 40 in London. As in primary schools, nursery schools are led by qualified headteachers and teachers working with other qualified early years’ educators and teaching assistants. We are specialists in early education and development for children from birth to 5 years old, working in collaboration with parents and other professionals.
To ensure the best opportunities for all children we work very closely with parents, other professionals and organisations who support families with young children, for example health visitors, speech and language therapists, training organisations and charities such as Clapham Relief Fund and Foodbank.
